Clutch kings: Which player at your club is taking the winning shot for goal?

2024-03-03T13:00+11:00

Which player at your club are you backing to bury a match-winning shot at goal?

That’s the question we asked the majority of AFL captains, phrasing it: “It’s a life and death situation - Which teammate kicks the goal?”

See their answers below:

ADELAIDE: “‘Tex’ (Taylor Walker),” said Jordan Dawson.

BRISBANE: “I’ll go with Zac Bailey. He’s got that clutch gene about him,” said Harris Andrews.

CARLTON: “I’m going Mitch McGovern,” said Patrick Cripps

COLLINGWOOD: “Ash Johnson, or Jamie Elliott - because he’s got the runs on the board,” said Darcy Moore.

ESSENDON: “No-brainer, Peter Wright,” said Zach Merrett.

“He’s got a super set shot, spends hours and hours on it, so I’ve got a lot of faith in him.”

FREMANTLE:Michael ‘Sonny’ Walters,” said Alex Pearce.

GOLD COAST:Noah Anderson has done it once and I can see him doing it again,” said Touk Miller.

GWS GIANTS:Harry Himmelberg,” said Josh Kelly (in place of Toby Greene).

HAWTHORN:Mabior Chol,” said James Sicily.

MELBOURNE: “Depends if it’s after the siren at Kardinia Park. If it’s that it’s me,” said Max Gawn.

“If it’s not that, then it’s Tom McDonald. That might be an unpopular opinion. The popular one would be Bayley Fritsch.”

PORT ADELAIDE:Todd Marshall,” said Connor Rozee.

RICHMOND:Jack Graham, he’s clutch,” said Toby Nankervis.

ST KILDA:Tim Membrey, He’s a bit of a dead-eye,” said Jack Steele.

SYDNEY: “I’ll go with ‘Parks’ (Luke Parker). He’s pretty clutch with a set shot,” said Callum Mills.

WEST COAST: “If it’s 30 out, Jack Darling. If it’s anything further probably Jamie Cripps,” said Oscar Allen.

Note: Geelong’s Patrick Dangerfield, North Melbourne’s Jy Simpkin and Western Bulldogs’ Marcus Bontempelli were unable to be reached for an answer.
