Which AFL ‘nobodies’ will become ‘somebodies’ in 2024?

That was the question on the minds of SEN WA trio Tim Gossage, Scott Cummings and Mark Duffield as the season draws closer each day.

Each of the hosts picked a different player who is relatively unknown that they expect to break out and become a big name.

Check out their picks below and their explanations of why they think their player will become well-known in 2024.

Logan McDonald - Sydney
Scott Cummings

“I tossed up over this,” Cummings said on SEN WA Breakfast.

“I think Keidean Coleman's in for a big one, but he became a somebody last late last year.

“Tom De Koning again was the other one, I reckon he's going to have a breakout year.

“But I'm going to stick to my pre-season prediction of the breakout player of the year and he is a nobody in Sydney right now. That’s Logan McDonald.

“He’s not a nobody to us because we know him, he's a West Aussie.

“But in Sydney with no Buddy Franklin, I reckon they'll even be able to show fans in Sydney a picture of him at the end of the season and they'll know his name.

“I'm really confident of that.”

George Wardlaw – North Melbourne
Mark Duffield

“I’ve got George Wardlaw at North Melbourne,’ Duffield said.

“He’s a very good player, works very hard at his craft and he’s as hard as a cat's head.

“He's going to be (a gun). I think they will start to progress, and I think George will be right at the front of it.

“I was talking to a bloke from North Melbourne, and he was saying, ‘Mate George Wardlaw, I tell you…’, they’re very excited about him.”

Reef McInnes – Collingwood
Tim Gossage

“It’s Reef McInnes for me,” Gossage said.

“It’s really hard to break into that Collingwood team. But I just think (he will break out).

“It will be his third year in the system. I think he plays forward. I reckon he's sort of the next in line behind a Jamie Elliott type.

“He can sting through the midfield if needed. I think Reef McInnes is a player.

“I look forward to seeing him become a somebody this year.

“I think he's had a solid pre-season.”
