Luke Hodge’s tips for Round 1 of the 2024 season

2024-03-13T11:44+11:00

Hawthorn great and former Brisbane veteran Luke Hodge has provided his tips for Round 1 of the 2024 season.

After going 0/4 in Opening Round, the premiership captain is intent on picking up a few more tips in the first full round of the new campaign.

Read his assessments below:

Carlton v Richmond

“This should be an easy victory for Carlton, but as I found out last week, I was zip and four with my tips,” Hodge said on SENQ Breakfast.

“If Carlton are any good, they should be able to knock off Richmond on Thursday night.”

Collingwood v Sydney

“Sydney were good last week against Melbourne but if they play the same way just bombing it in there, Collingwood will eat them alive with their intercept marking.

“I think Collingwood at home will be too strong and they’ll bounce back.”

Essendon v Hawthorn

“I think Essendon will be too strong. Hawthorn have a lot of injuries through their backline and they’re still developing.

“The Bombers should be too strong with their developing list.”

GWS v North Melbourne

“The Giants will win by a long way. North Melbourne are developing, a few injuries, Jy Simpkin is out.

“The Giants were very, very impressive against Collingwood.”

Geelong v St Kilda

“I’m leaning towards St Kilda. The Cats are going through that development phase.

“St Kilda have a free-flowing sling and they start the season pretty well.”

Gold Coast v Adelaide

“As exciting as what they were (the Suns), Adelaide to start the season fresh.

“But I’m hoping Gold Coast can continue what they did on the weekend, it was great to see.”

Melbourne v Western Bulldogs

Port Adelaide v West Coast

“Port by a long way.”

Fremantle v Brisbane

“After the comments we heard from Lachie Neale on the weekend, I expect the Lions to come out physical.

“Fremantle is a team that has underperformed the last 18 month, we don’t really know what to expect from them.

“We know how good the Lions can be and with the mindset of what Lachie mentioned in the media, everyone is going to be having the team-first mindset.

“I expect the Lions to have a good win over there.”
