The AFL has officially announced key details about its 19th team Tasmania at a launch event across the state on Monday night.

While we’ve known for some time that Tasmania was awarded the next expansion license, details such as the club’s colours, emblem and nickname have been in development since that announcement.

That’s until today, with those key details surrounding the club confirmed.

The club decided on its branding after surveying over 6000 Tasmanians for their thoughts on how their side should be represented.

We’ve broken them down for you here with everything you need to know about the Tasmanian license.

When will the club play its first AFL game?

While it's yet to be confirmed, the Devils intend to play their first official AFL game in 2028.

What is next?

The AFL granted the license after the league signed binding commitments with the Tasmanian Government that included partnering with the Federal Government for the construction of a 23,000-seat roofed stadium at Macquarie Point in Hobart.

That deal was signed by the state's Liberal Party who fully intend to follow through with the plan. But if Labor win at the upcoming state election this weekend, they have said they will renegotiate the contract terms.

At this stage, the team will only join the AFL as long as the stadium is built.

The AFL is confident the stadium will be built no matter what party is in power.
