Pies defender Murphy edging closer to return from concussion

2024-03-20T11:35+11:00

NATHAN Murphy is edging closer to a long-awaited return from concussion.

While there is no specific timeline on a comeback game, those familiar with Murphy’s circumstances believe the defender will be ready in the coming few weeks.

Murphy has been cleared by the AFL, concussion experts and Pies medicos to continue his career.

The 24-year-old key back recently wanted follow-up scans that also gave him the green light to keep playing.

But negative thoughts and doubts have delayed his return.

Murphy has since spent time working on the mental side of things, which has had some benefit.

Collingwood’s approach to Murphy has been cautious and considered as he returns to more meaningful contact training.

Murphy hasn’t played a game of any kind since ruling himself out of last year’s Grand Final with concussion, while he was also on the receiving end of a dangerous Nick Daicos tackle during pre-season training in January.
