“It is very unusual”: The strange situation surrounding Hunt, Lomax and the Dragons

2024-03-21T11:55+11:00

The Zac Lomax rumours surrounding his displeasure at the Dragons have taken a bizarre turn after St George Illawarra captain Ben Hunt confirmed the 24-year-old wants out of the club.

Lomax has reportedly been unhappy with his positional switch from the centres to the wing despite attracting interest from NSW coach Michael Maguire in his new role.

The Daily Telegraph’s Michael Carayannis said it was another poor look for the Dragons given Hunt has also been vocal about his dissatisfaction at the club.

“We’ve seen this with Ben Hunt before and he is honest to a fault,” Carayannis told SEN 1170 Breakfast.

“Hunt said what he thought to be true in that Lomax does not want to be there but that he hasn’t moped around or soaked and been the best player in the past two weeks.

“What these comments have done is throw Lomax’s future at the club back in the spotlight when they were starting to go a little bit quiet.

“I have never seen anything like this.

“It is very unusual, particularly when the player in question (Lomax) hasn’t publicly told anyone about it.

“The Dragons have told Zac Lomax that they have no intention of releasing him this year and may particularly look at next year.

“New coach Shane Flanagan has made it clear he doesn’t want Zac Lomax to go and we saw how this all played out last year.

“He’s on upwards of $800k this year and the year after (and) you’ll need to find a club who will pay a big chunk of that contract as well or there’s no point in letting him go.

“You then still need to find a replacement for him.”

Lomax has been linked to Parramatta who are in serious need of an outside back.
