NZ Warriors push back Wayde Egan's return another week

2024-03-22T10:30+13:00

The One NZ Warriors will be without first-choice hooker Wayde Egan for at least another week due to an elbow injury.

Speaking with Ian Smith on SENZ Mornings, Warriors assistant coach Richie Agar confirmed the news.

"He (Egan) just trained and couldn't quite get through training and wasn't feeling fully recovered, so we decided to give him another week."

Egan's absence will see the recently extended Freddy Lussick elevated to the starting role against the undefeated Canberra Raiders. Chanel Harris-Tavita may also feature when the matchday squads are announced ahead of Friday's 8pm kickoff.

Searching for their first win of the 2024 NRL season, the Warriors will enter Apollo Projects Stadium with a sold-out Canterbury crowd behind them, just as they did for last month's trial match against the Wests Tigers.

Egan's injury news comes off the back of Dylan Walker (ankle) also being ruled out from the contest, with Jazz Tevaga moving to the interchange.
