Rabbitohs and Mitchell slammed for lack of accountability in swearing drama

SEN's Andrew Voss and Olympian James Magnussen have slammed the South Sydney Rabbitohs for their refusal to act in the wake of Latrell Mitchell’s expletive-laden interview.

Mitchell had a meeting with NRL CEO Andrew Abdo to discuss his language during an interview after last week’s Broncos and Rabbitohs clash, with the meeting also discussing how to protect Mitchell from future media ‘pile-ons’.

The decision was also made that Mitchell would not do media following his game this weekend, nor for the foreseeable future; a fact Voss had great issue with.

“I feel like a broken record. If South Sydney, his employer, dealt with this straight after the game… the oxygen is taken out of this story and there’s nothing more that can be said… but they have looked to blame everyone else but Latrell,” Voss said on Breakfast with Vossy and Brandy.

“The only perception is he’s bigger than the South Sydney club… Souths cannot handle this guy. Is his value to Souths more today than it was yesterday if he doesn’t do media?

“Is Latrell Mitchell bigger than the club? At what point does it get through that you’re an employee?”

Magnussen also voiced his disagreement with the media blackout, saying Mitchell needed to take accountability.

“Latrell did the wrong thing! If he doesn’t drop half a dozen f-bombs, acknowledge it and then refuse to apologise for it, there is no pile on. There’s no reason to pile on if he doesn’t give you a reason to pile on,” Magnussen said.

“(I’m a) big Latrell fan of what he does on the field, but this is very hard to defend.”

Mitchell and the South Sydney Rabbitohs take on arch-rivals the Sydney Roosters tonight at Allianz Stadium, hoping to notch their first win of the season.
