Club great ranks his top five 2024 premiership contenders after Round 2

2024-03-27T14:00+11:00

Fremantle great Paul Hasleby has ranked his top five premiership contenders after Round 2 of the 2024 AFL season.

Hasleby has the Dockers ranked sixth after their 2-0 start but put five teams that played finals in 2023 in his top handful of flag fancies.

The SEN WA host also refused to put both of last year’s Grand Finalists Collingwood and Brisbane into his top five after the two teams have combined for a 0-5 record so far in 2024.

Check out his top five flag hopefuls below with number one being his top pick.

5 – Carlton (7th, 2-0)

“I’ve got Freo at six, but I've got Carlton in there at five,” Hasleby said on SEN WA The Run Home.

“They've had two good wins, one was against Brisbane at the Gabba.

“So, for that reason, I've got them at five.”

4 – Port Adelaide (3rd, 2-0)

“Port Adelaide for me (at number four)

“They’re two from two - great start.

“They've got best on-ball combination in the land with Connor Rozee and Zak Butters.”

3 – Melbourne (4th, 2-1)

“I’ve got Melbourne at three even though they had an Opening Round loss.

“But they’re getting back to their best with two good wins.”

2 – Sydney (2nd, 3-0)

“At number two I do have the Sydney Swans.

“They've beaten Melbourne, Collingwood and Essendon. That is better form (than GWS), but I still like the Giants most.”

1 – GWS (1st, 3-0)

“I’ve got them (GWS) at number one because they’ve won with ease, and they want for nothing in terms of their positional needs.

“Their ruckman fired on the weekend, they've got goal kickers, they haven't even got much from Toby Greene at the moment - he's kicked two goals for the season, they don't need him to play well.

“So, I've got them at number one. “
