“Should be right to go”: Dees assistant expects Oliver to play despite training injury

2024-03-27T16:45+11:00

Melbourne assistant Troy Chaplin expects Clayton Oliver to play on Saturday against Port Adelaide despite the midfielder being sent for scans after a training injury on Wednesday.

While Chaplin did confirm that Oliver suffered a finger injury at Casey Fields during the session, the assistant thinks that the issue is simply a dislocation with the scans precautionary.

Chaplin expects the tough on-baller to recover from the injury in time for Saturday and be “right to go” for the flight to Adelaide.

“He went off for some precautionary scans but not too much is going to keep Clarry out,” Chaplin told SEN SA The Run Home.

“He's a pretty tough bugger, so he should be right to go.

“It happened towards the end of training, and I think some of the media are still there so they probably assumed the worst.

“But, yeah, it just looks like a dislocation at the moment.”

Oliver has started the 2024 season in strong fashion despite enduring a turbulent off-season with returns of 30, 35 and 23 disposals in his three games so far.

The Demons will be without Steven May with a double rib fracture but coach Simon Goodwin is confident that Jake Lever would get up for the clash despite sitting out the second half of last week’s win over Hawthorn with a knee concern.

Saturday’s clash between the Power and Demons at the Adelaide Oval will begin at 7:30 pm (AEDT).
