SEN host Dwayne Russell has named his top three lists in the AFL for the 2024 season.
Through Round 4, Russell hasn’t picked his best lists off how sides have performed across the first month of the campaign but instead purely on the strength of how their squad looks on paper.
Russell picked ladder-leaders GWS as his best list in the competition as he thinks they want for nothing, while Melbourne and Brisbane are also in his top three despite the Lions sitting 0-3 and the Demons failing to win a final since their 2021 premiership victory.

1 – GWS
“I think the Giants do have the best list in the comp,” Russell said on SEN Afternoons.
“They're top of the ladder now, but I think they've also got the best list in the comp.
“They don't want for anything. They've got a great midfield.
“They've got a star-packed forward line as well with Toby Greene and Jesse Hogan down there who are up there, I think with (Harry) McKay and (Charlie) Curnow as well as (Tom) Hawkins and (Jeremy) Cameron as the best forward combo in the competition.
“Their midfield is stacked and their defence, they've arguably got the best key defender in the comp in Sam Taylor.
“So, I think the Giants have got the best list.”
2 - Melbourne
“I think Melbourne's got the second best list.
“I think with (Harrison) Petty and (Jacob) Van Rooyen in form, when you think of their forward line with those two guys, if they're playing well, it's a different kettle of fish for Melbourne than when they don't have any forwards to kick to.
“Especially when you add (Kysaiah) Pickett and (Bayley) Fritsch to that.
“They've got a great midfield, and (Steven) May and (Jake) Lever in defence is arguably as good a defensive key defensive combo in the comp.
“So I've got Melbourne number two list-wise.”
3 - Brisbane
“After having a look at it last night, at three I think Brisbane's still there for me.
“They have too good a list not to get it going at some stage this season.
“So, Brisbane's the third best list in the comp for 2024 for me.”
