Report: Blues and Dees chasing free agent Swans forward

2024-04-10T07:15+10:00

Carlton, Melbourne and the two South Australian clubs Adelaide and Port Adelaide are reportedly attempting to lure Sydney forward Will Hayward at the end of the season.

The 25-year-old goal kicker is a restricted free agent and Tom Morris reports that there is a lot of interest in acquiring his services.

“Free agent Will Hayward is hot property right now. Sydney has offered the 25-year-old a deal, but he has sparked interest from rivals including two big Victorian clubs who are both in the premiership window,” Morris told 9News.

“Adelaide and Port are both keen on the South Australian, we knew that, but tonight I can confirm Carlton and Melbourne are firmly in the hunt for Hayward as a free agent at the end of the year and both would offer long-term deals.

“So, Hayward’s choice will be between the Swans, where he’s played 142 games, and the Blues, Demons, Port or Crows.

“Sydney remains confident he will re-sign, but with these clubs circling it is a huge career decision.

“It’s also important to note that as a restricted free agent, Sydney can match any offer.”

Hayward has kicked seven goals from five games so far for the Swans, averaging 11.6 disposals per game, 5.2 marks and 3.1 tackles.

Sydney still must re-sign Errol Gulden, Logan McDonald, Ollie Florent and Hayward ahead of the trade period.
