Swans star Gulden puts pen to paper on multi-year contract extension

2024-04-10T18:42+10:00

Sydney Swans star Errol Gulden has inked a four-year extension to keep him at the Swans until the end of the 2028 season.

Gulden was set to come out of contract at the end of the season and is now tied to the club until entering free agency.

The 2023 All-Australian was perhaps the biggest name still without a contract for 2025 before inking the deal.

The local product won the club’s best and fairest in 2023 and also finished fourth in the Brownlow Medal.

Sydney GM of footy Leon Cameron was thrilled to lock Gulden in long-term.

“It’s fantastic to see Errol commit his future to the red and white. Errol is a respected member of this playing group and a core part of our club’s future,” Cameron said via a statement.

“His work ethic is something to be admired, he is always looking to improve. He has shown remarkable consistency and continues to perform week in and week out at a high level. It’s qualities like these that seen him develop into a natural leader within the playing group.

“His time in the QBE Sydney Swans Academy helped prepare him for life as a professional football player, and you can see that in the success he has already achieved in just three years at the top level.”

Gulden, who hails from Sydney, was thrilled to remain at a club that he considers his home.

“I feel honoured to have the club put their faith in me for another four years,” Gulden said via a statement.

“From my time developing in the Academy, to walking through the doors in 2020 as an AFL listed player, this place has always felt like home to me.

“I started my career alongside names like Buddy Franklin and Josh Kennedy, which is something I don’t take for granted. They were greats of this club, and they worked hard to build us young guys up to where we are today. Now I get to keep going on that journey alongside names like Luke Parker, Dane Rampe, and Isaac Heeney.

“We’re building something special here and I’m grateful to be a part of the journey.”

Gulden and the Swans are enjoying the Round 5 bye after starting their campaign 4-1.

The young gun is averaging 24.8 disposals, five marks, four clearances and almost six inside 50s a game in 2024.
