More pain for Richmond with star midfielder among two fresh injuries

2024-04-12T13:50+10:00

Richmond has confirmed that Tim Taranto has suffered a wrist injury which will keep him sidelined for an “extended period”.

The star Tigers midfielder fractured his radius in an innocuous incident at training on Friday ahead of Sunday’s clash with West Coast.

Taranto will now undergo surgery and be out for some time.

“We are incredibly disappointed for Tim that he will miss some football, but we know the professional he is, he will keep himself fit and strong and return as quickly as he can,” the club’s GM of football performance Tim Livingstone.

“It was an unlucky incident right at the end of today’s session. He will have it operated on immediately, and we will see where everything is at after that.”

The Taranto injury compounds a sour day for the Tigers who will be without Jack Ross for up to eight weeks.

The improving 23-year-old has a stress fracture in his foot which will also require surgery.

It adds to Adem Yze’s injury woes with the Tigers already without Tom Lynch (hamstring) for up to 12 weeks, Josh Gibcus (ACL) for the season, Noah Balta (knee) for up to six weeks, Jacob Hopper (knee) for up to three weeks and Dion Prestia (hamstring) for about the same.

Steely Green, who was drafted in 2022, has been added to the extended squad for the Round 5 meeting with the Eagles in Perth.

Liam Baker, Sam Naismith, Hugo Ralphsmith and Sam Banks were already included in the squad.
