The greatest moment racing has seen since...? Bates and Jenni combine for remarkable win

2024-04-13T00:00+10:00

Have we just witnessed one of the greatest ever rides in the history of racing after Declan Bates delivered an incredible steer on Pride Of Jenni in the Queen Elizabeth?

The Ciaron Maher-trained mare set the field alight in the $5 million feature with Bates leading them a merry dance in the 2000m feature.

As soon as the gates opened, Pride Of Jenni took up the lead and at the top of the straight was nearly 100m in front of the pack with Via Sistina and Mr Brightside running out the placings in the Group 1.

SENTrack’s Cam Luke says Bates’ ride was arguably the greatest thing he’s ever seen on a racetrack.

“This is unbelievable,” Luke said.

"This is either the greatest ride any jockey has ever undertaken in this country or the dumbest, she’s going to lead by 30 lengths at the top of the straight.

“I’ve never seen anything like this, this is the most remarkable thing I’ve seen in Australian racing, my god!

“That is unbelievable, she has belted them, that is seriously one of the most remarkable wins I have ever seen, ever.

“She led them by 100m during the race, I’m being legit about this, the way she just won that it’s either her or Without A Fight in my idea.”

Pride Of Jenni’s Queen Elizabeth win caps off an incredible year for the star mare with that win being her third Group 1.
