Round 3 of the 2024 VFL season is complete with three games taking place on Sunday.

The first match of the day took place at Arden St Oval with North Melbourne beating Brisbane 76-75 thanks to a Sam Lowson game-winner.

The margin never got out past a three-goal lead to either side with nine lead changes taking place across the four quarters.

For North, Curtis Taylor kicked two goals while Will Phillips (21 disposals) was strong in the midfield. Jaidyn Stephenson also responded to his AFL axing with two goals, six marks and 15 disposals.

For Brisbane, Jarryd Lyons filled up on-ball with 37 disposals while all of James Tunstill (one goal, 28 disposals), Henry Smith (one goal, eight marks), Deven Robertson (one goal, 33 disposals), Harry Sharp (one goal, 23 disposals) and Brandon Ryan (three goals) pushed their cases for senior selection.

The biggest clash of the day was up next with Carlton hosting Collingwood at Ikon Park in what looms as an early contender for game of the year.

The clash had a whopping 14 lead changes throughout with the Magpies prevailing 82-83 after kicking the last two points of the game.

Fin Macrae was everywhere for the winners with 29 disposals while Ned Long (one goal, 23 disposals) was brilliant. Ed Allan (23 disposals), Jack Bytel (21 disposals) and Lachie Sullivan (19 disposals) were also strong, particularly late as Josh Carmichael (three goals) starred up forward.

For Carlton, Lachie Cowan (22 disposals) and Jaxon Binns (one goal, 22 disposals) were standouts as they push for senior call-ups.

Sunday’s other game took place in Preston with Geelong beating the Northern Bullants 36-89.

Toby Conway was the dominant ruckman on the ground with 17 disposals and 37 hitouts, while all of Mitch Knevitt (one goal, 23 disposals), Oisin Mullin (21 disposals) and Shaun Mannagh (three goals) pushed their cases for senior recalls.

Round 3’s other winners were Footscray, GWS, Williamstown, Werribee, Casey and Gold Coast.
