Hawks champion Dunstall to be elevated to Australian Football Hall of Fame Legend status

2024-04-15T11:25+10:00

Hawthorn champion Jason Dunstall will become the 32nd player to receive Legend Status in the Australian Football Hall of Fame.

The AFL announced the news on Monday morning after the ex-Hawk was originally inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2002, four years after his retirement in 1998.

Dunstall began his career with Hawthorn in 1985 and would go on to kick 1254 goals, the third-most in VFL/AFL history behind only Tony Lockett and Gordon Coventry.

The AFL’s newest Legend was incredibly grateful to be bestowed with the highest honour in the game.

“I’m a little overwhelmed at the moment,” Dunstall said at a press conference.

“It’s an incredible privilege. I feel very humble, almost to the point of embarrassment when you consider that there’s just a tick over 30 Legends in the game.

“It’s the highest honour you could imagine, so I feel incredibly grateful to the AFL.

“To sit amongst names that are synonymous with the game is incredibly humbling.”

The full forward claimed four premierships as a Hawk throughout the late 80s and early 90s and captained the club in his final four campaigns.

Dunstall also won the Hawthorn leading goal kicker award 12 times and was a three-time Coleman Medallist.

He will officially be inducted as a Legend at the Hall of Fame induction in Melbourne on June 18.
