"When in doubt, Hynes picks up points": Voss highlights recurring Dally M voting inconsistencies

2024-04-15T12:36+10:00

SEN’s Andrew Voss continues to be baffled by the Dally M Medal voting system following a bizarre spread of votes in the South Sydney Rabbitohs v Cronulla Sharks match on Saturday.

Voss was previously bemused after Parramatta’s Dylan Brown earnt a vote despite his side losing by 33 points. On this occasion, Cronulla halfback Nicho Hynes received two votes despite many players having a greater impact in the 34-22 win over the Rabbitohs.

Voss has suggested that Dally M judges are falling back on the names of star players when handing out votes rather than assessing who had a strong game.

“Dally M voting remains in the firing line (because) we are scratching our heads,” Voss said on SEN 1170 Breakfast.

“This is not a pile on towards Nicho Hynes but the perception is that when in doubt, Hynes picks up points in Cronulla games.

“One of the judges has rated him the second best player on the field.

“I called the game (on commentary) and I reckon these players were all clearly better than Hynes.

“Ronaldo Mulitalo, Will Kennedy, Sione Katoa, Jesse Ramien, Braydon Trindall and Blayke Brailey who I thought were fantastic.

“Tom Burgess was outstanding for South Sydney and I could even put up Shaq Mitchell.

“Burgess was clearly better than Hynes on a losing side.”

Hynes currently sits in third spot on the Dally M leaderboard with 14 votes.
