Zorko confirms he’s spoken to “very apologetic” Answerth after Petty taunt

2024-04-15T15:40+10:00

Brisbane veteran Dayne Zorko has spoken to Noah Answerth after the young Lion sledged Melbourne forward Harrison Petty in Thursday night’s win at the MCG.

Answerth’s taunt referenced a 2022 incident between Zorko and Petty which left the Dee in tears due to the personal nature of the sledge.

Two years on from that moment, Answerth rubbed his towards Petty suggesting tears and Zorko says that mocking opposition players isn’t something that Brisbane wants to be known for on-field.

While former Lion Luke Hodge backed Answerth for his actions on SEN, Zorko says he’s spoken to the 59-gamer about his antics and says that he’s very apologetic and will learn from his mistake and move forward.

“Obviously he's disappointed with the actions that he partook in,” Zorko told SENQ’s Pat and Heals.

“But, we're always learning, we're always trying to get better.

“Like I said on the night, I wasn't aware of it until after the game when I got asked in an interview. I had no idea of it (during the game).

“But he'll certainly learn from it, and I've had a quick chat with him about it.

“It's just not the way we want to win as a football club and he's fully, fully aware of that.

“He's extremely apologetic and we just move forward from there.”

Brisbane’s victory against Melbourne was their second for the year taking them to 2-3 on the season. Their next challenge comes against an undefeated Geelong side at the Gabba.

Zorko says that the Lions are desperate to pick up a home win after losing in Brisbane to Carlton and Collingwood this year as the two potentially full-strength sides go head-to-head in a blockbuster clash.

“It's great for our football club to be given these opportunities early on at the start of the year,” Zorko said.

“We've had big games in Carlton and Collingwood so far at the Gabba and now we get the undefeated Geelong Cats - their form is unbelievable.

“They were fantastic yesterday against North Melbourne, Jeremy Cameron and their small forwards were just so potent in front of goals.

“It’s another really tough challenge for us. They'll probably get a few back in Tom Hawkins and potentially Patrick Dangerfield.

“So, it looks like we're gonna have two full-strength teams going at it, which is great.

“For us, it's about getting back and trying to make the Gabba a fortress again.

“We've sort of let that flip the last month. For us, I think there’ll be a lot of emphasis on coming out and giving our fans a home win.”

The bounce for Saturday’s clash between the Lions and Cats at the Gabba is set for 7:30pm (AEST).
