Former Socceroos keeper reflects on European career, AC Milan memories and more

Former Australian goalkeeper Zeljko Kalac is this week's guest on This Is Your Journey – thanks to Tobin Brothers.

Kalac, who was born in Sydney in 1972, started his career at Sydney United in the Australian National Soccer League with whom he came up the ranks with until his early 20s when as move to England beckoned.

That UK switch came when Leicester City came calling, he’d make three first team appearances for the club before returning to Sydney United until 1998.

Kalac’s next European move came in 1998 to Dutch side Roda JC with whom he made 115 appearances for.

Italy called next for Kalac who played 79 games for Perugia before moving over to powerhouse AC Milan where he appeared 38 times.

Kalac also made 54 appearances for the Socceroos from 1992 to 2006 where he often played alongside both Mark Bosnich and Mark Schwarzer. He also played an important role in the 2006 World Cup group clash against Croatia where the Aussies picked up a 2-2 draw to advance to the round of 16.

Since retiring has worked as a goalkeeper coach for all of Sydney FC, Western Sydney Wanderers and Melbourne City and he’s now serving as Sydney United head coach in the National Premier League and soon to be National Second Division side.
