The five teams under the most pressure heading into Round 7

2024-04-24T13:30+10:00

SEN’s Dwayne Russell has named the five teams under the most pressure heading into Round 7.

Russell’s pressure meter ranks teams from 1-5, with number one having the most pressure on them and the most to lose heading into the round.

Check out Russell’s pressure meter below.

1 – Brisbane Lions
vs GWS – Manuka Oval – Thursday night

“I think the Brisbane Lions are at no.1 when it comes to the pressure meter,” Russell began.

“12th, 2-4, I think they will still make the top eight, Brisbane, but they were Grand Finalists last season. They’ve wasted chances to win flags and this list has to win one, you’d think.

“If they don’t finish in the top four they likely won't win a premiership this year.

“I think the Brisbane Lions due to their pre-season expectations and where they are now are the most under pressure team this week.”

2 – Port Adelaide
vs St Kilda – Adelaide Oval– Friday night

“Home game against an opponent with players out and down on confidence (is) St Kilda.

“They’re coming off an embarrassment last week, so Port Adelaide, you could argue they should be no.1, but the expectation was much higher on Brisbane I think and Port are 4-2, so they’re a lot better placed.”

3 – Adelaide
vs North Melbourne – Blundstone Arena – Saturday

“Adelaide I’ve got at no.3. It’s a must-win for Adelaide at 15th on the ladder, 1-5, their season is over if the Crows lose to North Melbourne in Hobart.”

4 – Fremantle
vs Western Bulldogs – Optus Stadium – Saturday night

“The Dockers began the season with three wins in a row… people were jumping up and down saying get off Justin Longmuir’s back, but lose at home to the Dogs and Fremantle will be 3-4 and right back to where most people predicted they’d be in the pre-season if they were going to play a low-scoring type of game.

“Because the game plan, not just the ladder position, is a factor in all this.”

5 – Collingwood
vs Essendon – MCG – Thursday

“Collingwood at five. Collingwood does need to back it up this week and Essendon is in a good spot, they’re 7th. Collingwood is the team that is 10th.

“In many ways, Collingwood needs to win this and prove themselves more than Essendon.”
