Marsh explains Australia’s decision to omit Fraser-McGurk from T20 World Cup squad

Australia T20 captain Mitch Marsh has explained the decision to leave Jake Fraser-McGurk out of the 15-man World Cup squad.

Many pundits and fans were surprised to see Fraser-McGurk omitted after the young star’s recent form in the IPL, scoring three half-centuries from five knocks so far with Delhi.

While Fraser-McGurk is the talk of the cricketing world for his power hitting, Australia opted to go with David Warner and Travis Head at the top of the order.

Marsh simply thinks that the Aussies have all bases covered currently and the right 15-man squad, leaving no room for the supremely talented 22-year-old who the West Australian thinks no doubt has a big future.

“Jakey is an outstanding talent,” Marsh said on SEN WA Breakfast.

“I think you know the way he's taking on the IPL, he’s taken it by storm, they’re all loving him.

“But certainly, the Delhi crew are enjoying his company and enjoying what he brings to the team.

“There's no doubt that he's going to have a huge future, wherever he plays.

“But we feel like we've got all bases covered within our team.

“Heady and David Warner have been fantastic for us, not only for a long period of time but over the last 18 months building towards this World Cup.

“We're really comfortable that we've got the right 15, to hopefully take us deep into the World Cup.”

Marsh was asked whether he expects Fraser-McGurk to push for Aussie white-ball squads immediately after the World Cup and he believes that the Victorian playing for South Australia has an exciting career ahead in green and gold.

“Oh, yeah, no doubt,” Marsh said.

“He’s come along pretty quickly. There's been a huge amount of talent that's been identified from a young age.

“We saw a glimpse of it throughout the Big Bash this year and you know that the IPL is a tough tournament.

“You can't take a backward step and that's certainly the way he plays his cricket.

“He's got an exciting future.”

Australia have up until May 25 to make any changes to their 15-man World Cup squad if they see fit.
