Collingwood star's availability in the balance following injury concerns

2024-05-04T13:58+10:00

SEN’s Sam Edmund has provided an update on Collingwood’s Jordan De Goey following speculation surrounding his current injury complaints.

De Goey suffered a groin injury following the Magpies ANZAC day draw, failing to train midweek and consequently ruling him out for their famous victory over Carlton.

There has been talk of a possible case of osteitis pubis, which is inflammation between the left and right pubic bones causing hip or groin pain, however Collingwood are unsure as to whether that is the case.

“The real unknown at this stage is around Jordan De Goey,” Edmund told SEN’s Crunch Time.

“(He is) unlikely for West Coast next week, groin tightness is the description.

“The club is not sure if it’s osteitis pubis or not, so his availability at the moment is depending on how he responds to this early medical call.

“So that’s the anti-inflammatories, the cortisone that they have run through him this week, but at the moment definitely unlikely for this week and then a watch after that.”

De Goey is averaging just under 22 disposals a game, however, has been slightly down on his usage, at a career low 58.2% disposal efficiency.

With Collingwood’s big win in the clearance battle against the Blues on Friday night, coach Craig McRae will have a tough decision ahead in regard to his midfield selection.

With Jack Crisp managing 10 clearances following his move into the middle, and Lachlan Sullivan’s impressive debut, De Goey will have to work his way back into the side on return, alongside injured teammate and former Brownlow Medallist Tom Mitchell.

Collingwood have a nine-day break before their clash with the Eagles at Marvel Stadium.
