Brayshaw says Dockers will physically target ex-teammate Schultz in return game

2024-05-23T13:15+10:00

Fremantle star Andrew Brayshaw says he and his teammates are very excited to play against Lachie Schultz when the Dockers host the Pies on Friday night.

Schultz requested a trade from Freo to the Pies last off-season, citing homesickness as his reason to return closer to where he grew up in Moama.

While Brayshaw loved playing with Schultz and described the small forward as an amazing teammate, he says the Dockers will try and get physical with the 26-year-old if the opportunity presents.

He says he and his teammates will ‘toe the line’ and try not to go overboard in targeting Schultz in his return game as they did with Rory Lobb in his first game against Freo playing for the Dogs.

“We’re very excited to play against him,” Brayshaw told SEN WA Breakfast.

“Lachie was an amazing teammate and I loved playing with him.

“But now he's opposition and all of us will be trying to toe the line, I guess.

“We don’t want to, like you said, get him too sparked up so he kicks three or four (goals).

“But if we have an opportunity to put a bit of hurt on the kid, we'll be trying to do that.”

While it’s Schultz’s first match against Freo, it’s also his 100th career game.

The small forward has been decent without setting the world alight for Collingwood since making the move, kicking 10 goals from nine games so far.

Fremantle (6-4) will go above Collingwood (6-1-3) if they win on Friday night. The bounce for the big game at Optus Stadium is set for 8:10 pm (AEST) and 6:10 pm (AWST).
