The 4 certainties for Western Bulldogs versus Sydney

2024-05-23T11:50+10:00

Back for another year, the SEN.com.au team gives you an insight into how every game will play out across the weekend.

Labelling something a ‘certainty’ in any sport is fraught with danger.

But we’ll attempt to find some anyway.

Here is what we consider certainties for the Round 11 Thursday night clash between Western Bulldogs and Sydney.

Western Bulldogs

Treloar 30+ disposals

Adam Treloar is in near career-best form in 2024.

The midfielder has picked up at least 33 disposals in each of his last three games and he will back himself to pass the 30-touch marker again.

With Marcus Bontempelli likely having to deal with James Jordon as a one-on-one matchup, Treloar should run relatively free at Marvel Stadium.

He has also picked up at least 30 touches in each of his last two games against the Swans.

Lock him in.

Naughton 2+ goals

Aaron Naughton won’t have to deal with Tom McCartin on Thursday night with the key defender out with concussion.

While Sydney still has a strong defence, Naughton will back himself in a matchup against Lewis Melican or Aaron Francis.

Although he kicked just one goal last week, he kicked multiple majors in the five games leading up to that.

He should get more than two chances at goal on Thursday, it’ll just be down to his finishing.

Heeney to enjoy 20+ disposals, 1+ goals

You could wait for him to slow down, or you can jump on board because Isaac Heeney is only getting better as the season wears on.

The now overwhelming Brownlow favourite, Heeney battled attention from Carlton’s Matt Kennedy last week and still found a way to influence Sydney’s win with 24 touches and three goals.

Even if Heeney could be tagged, Luke Beveridge is yet to use a player in that capacity so far in 2024.

The 28-year-old kicked two goals from 17 possessions when he last played at Marvel Stadium, a time when he didn’t have his current form or midfield role.

Amartey to boot at least 1 goal

You may or may not be shocked to know Joel Amartey has the longest active goal streak at Sydney in 2024.

The 24-year-old hasn’t gone goalless since Opening Round this year and has had at least two shots on goal every game.

A likely match up with young pup James O’Donnell looms and Amartey would favour his chances.
