Brimson sets aside early season frustration and commits to Titans until 2030

Queensland Origin representive AJ Brimson has signed a four-year extension with the Gold Coast Titans that runs until 2030, hopefully making the local junior a one-club player.

Brimson has been one of the Titans’ most consistent and best performers for the past few seasons, making his resigning an invaluable one for the Gold Coast club, who also resigned superstar backrower David Fifita recently after he backflipped on a decision to join the Sydney Roosters.

Brimson started the season playing centre, but after injuries and a poor start to the season, Brimson was shifted into his preferred positions of fullback and five-eighth, recapturing his electric form.

Gold Coast Titans assistant coach Jim Lenihan said the 26-year-old was an exemplar club man and was back to his best after an unhappy start to the season in the centres.

“I don’t think he was bitterly upset at all, he wanted to do what was best for the club and he did that, whether he’s playing fullback or five-eighth or centre,” Lenihan told Pat & Heals on SEN.

“There’s no doubt his form at the moment when he went back to fullback… he shot the stars out so he’s certainly a very good player for us.

“I think it probably (wasn’t) his happiest point, but he was willing to do what was best for the team and he got what he wanted in the end anyway.

“He’s a local kid, been on the Gold Coast his whole life, been fantastic for the Gold Coast Titans and it’s fantastic we can secure him to stay with us and be a one club player.”

Brimson is currently injured, recovering from a groin injury suffered two weeks ago that ruled him out until Round 18.

The Titans have been dealing with an enormous injury toll, currently having seven players on the sideline including captain Tino Fa'asuamaleaui, Jayden Campbell, Jaimin Joliffe, and Tanah Boyd.

With only the Rabbitohs below the, the Titans sit in second last. However, significant improvements have been seen. In their last five losses, they haven’t lost by more than four.

Brimson’s teammates this week travel to Suncorp Stadium to take on the Brisbane Broncos where the understrength Titans will be looking for their third win of the season.
