Seibold clears the air around reportedly ‘storming out’ of contract talks

Manly Sea Eagles coach Anthony Seibold reportedly stormed out of contract extension talks with club powerbrokers midweek, leading many to speculate on his future in Sydney’s Northern Beaches.

Seibold, who took over the club last year, still has over 18 months to run on his current deal but was keen to hit the negotiating table when prompted by the club.

However, with the club missing finals last year and the status of star player Tom Trbojevic still in the air, Seibold faces a massive battle to return Manly to the promised land.

With the report of the break down in negotiations rattling the cages of Manly fans, Seibold set the record straight.

“I love the area here, I’ve had a place here since 2015 and I’ve really enjoyed working with this group of players, I feel like we’ve only scratched the surface with our potential,” Seibold told SEN NRL Crunch Time.

“I’m only 18 months into this project, I’d like to stay long term.

“I’ve got another year and a half on my contract, the club indicated that they’d like to extend me out but they’ve just put talks on hold for the minute which is understandable by everyone.

“I don’t think there needs to be a rush into this.

“I’m loving the role and I love coaching this group of players.

“If the club thinks I’m doing a good job and want to extend me out then I’d love to keep working this group of players.

“That’s pretty much where it’s at, I’m happy and comfortable with where things are and I know from the club's point of view they are too.”

Manly currently sit in 8th spot with a 6-5 record for the year after an impressive win over the Melbourne Storm on Friday night.
