Inaugural Sydney Swans coach Ricky Quade is this week's guest on This Is Your Journey – thanks to Tobin Brothers.

Quade began his journey in footy in the Riverina region of New South Wales, playing for Ariah Park-Mirool before joining South Melbourne in 1970.

The ruck-rover played 164 games for the Swans across 10 years at the club, captaining the side from 1977-79 and winning a best and fairest in 1976.

Quade retired in 1980 but stayed at the club as chairman of selectors and he remained a Swan amid the club’s move in 1981-82 from South Melbourne to Sydney.

The 164-gamer became head coach of Sydney as he was the heir apparent to previous coach Ian Stewart, who stepped away after the club’s final year in Victoria.

He only stepped away from the role midway through the 1984 season due to a severely bleeding ulcer.

Quade also served as chairman of selectors again from 1989-1993 and then worked for the next 14 years as club director, a period where Sydney claimed the 2005 premiership.

He reflected on his memories as a player, coach and administrator in this week’s episode with Sam Edmund.
