The NSW Blues have defied the odds and won the 2024 State of Origin series in an all-time classic, defeating the Queensland Maroons 14-4 at Suncorp Stadium on Wednesday night.
Coming into having lost the six series deciders in Brisbane, the odds were not in the favour of the visitors but after a historic win in Game II there was a noticeable sense of confidence from the Blues.
From the first hit-up, it was very apparent that both sides would throw everything they could into every tackle to gain supremacy in the early stages.
It was a brutal opening period of the match and set the tone for the remainder of the night, with the forwards going blow for blow in the middle of the park.
In a battering first half, it was the Blues that looked more likelier of the two sides but a late penalty gave the Maroons a two-point lead going into the break.
The Blues dominated the second half and deservingly got the first try of the courtesy of a sensational solo effort from Bradman Best.
Another solo attempt from Mitchell Moses all but sealed the result in the dying stages of the game as the Blues regained the shield for the first time since 2021.
