Form analyst identifies his clear number one seed in the Melbourne Cup

Leading form analyst Jules Vallance, from Foxcatcher, says Berkshire Breeze is clearly the number one seed in the Melbourne Cup.

The Ciaron Maher-trained stayer has impressed in recent months where he’s won three on the trot by a combined margin of 12.5 lengths.

Following his Cranbourne romping three starts ago, Berkshire Breeze has relished the Flemington circuit with two in a row and Vallance says the numbers and ratings are proof of that.

“The Cranbourne number jumped off the page, he then went to Flemington and went a big number again and then in his most recent Flemington win it went enormous with how I do my ratings,” Vallance told SENTrack.

Berkshire Breeze looks an ideal Melbourne Cup horse given his tactical advantage and ability to win from the front and back.

He’s yet to solidify his position in the Cup field but Vallance is tipping him to win the ballot exempt Bart Cummings in October and stamp his authority as a Cups horse so much so that he’s likening him to the 2016 winner in Almandin.

“He’s still got to do it and get into the race, he’s got to win on Saturday and then win a Bart Cummings and he probably ends up with 52 or 52.5kgs in a Melbourne Cup,” he added.

“Right now, as I see it, he’s clearly the number one seed for the Melbourne Cup. He’s got a little bit of Almandin in 2016 about him, I think he’s a great talent and I keep looking at him and going ‘if he keeps improving, I think he’ll start clear favourite in the Melbourne Cup no matter what comes out’.

“I think everyone has got him going really highly and clearly the market has him going at a good figure but it’s the progressive nature of him as well, he does it having those breaks between runs and just being able to continually improve its number every time it goes to the races.

“He just seems to be doing everything right and he’s in the right camp we’re, he does still have to get into the race and if he were to get beaten in the Bart Cummings it makes it really difficult for a horse like this to even get into a Melbourne Cup as they would probably have to change the prep for it to get him in.

“History isn’t a great guide to tell us what is going to happen in the future but it’s all about the vibe and the vibe he is giving me is Almandin in 2016 where he won a Bart Cummings and started $11 in a Melbourne Cup and won convincingly.

“He’s clearly the number one seed.”

Berkshire Breeze is the current $15 second favourite with Sportsbet in the Cup and he's the $1.55 favourite at Flemington on Saturday.
