Collingwood is a club that has undergone significant changes culturally in the last 15 years, moving through big personality and profile head coaches in Mick Malthouse, Nathan Buckley and Craig McRae.
Former Magpie Alex Fasolo believes the club has become more laid back over the years, particularly under McRae
Fasolo returned to the club recently in order to present Ned Long with his debut Pies jumper.
He was asked to describe the atmosphere in the rooms and how it differed to during his playing days.
“To answer the question, I would say it is very much a different feel in there,” Fasolo told SEN’s Captain’s Run.
“Craig McRae was my first development coach back in 2011, so I’ve got a good relationship with him.
“As soon as I got in the doors you can just tell it’s a much more laid back and probably a more learning-friendly environment.
“Which is great and I think it’s the way the game is evolving and the way that fits the new generation coming through.
“I know from talking to my friends at the club and they just love being at the club. I think Fly is doing an amazing job.
“I love him, he was my favourite coach ever. I’m glad he’s got the big job and know the boys are loving it.”
Fasolo played 101 games for the Magpies between 2011 and 2018, before adding a further three games for Carlton in 2019.
