Former Adelaide and Geelong forward Josh Jenkins has named five players who should look for new homes this off-season.
The five players he named are all proven at the level but could benefit from a move away from a fit perspective or to again play senior football.
Jenkins named GWS’ Nick Haynes, Western Bulldogs duo Rory Lobb and Caleb Daniel, Nick Bryan and as the five he thinks should be looking at their options and named the clubs that should chase them this October.
Nick Haynes (GWS)
Potential destination(s): Adelaide, North Melbourne
“Nick Haynes, I was a bit surprised that he was 32,” Jenkins told SEN The Run Home.
“But I think we’re opening our vision to what it looks like for guys being north of 30. Once upon a time, even five years ago, I reckon the moment you hit 30 you were very nervous as a footballer.
“We're now giving two-year deals to players north of 30. He’s a former All-Australian and plenty of teams could do with an interceptor.
“He can play on a bigger forward. He can play on a smaller forward … but he’s been stuck behind Harry Himmelberg who the Giants have committed long-time to.
“The Crows can do with a taller defender and so can the Roos.”
Rory Lobb (Western Bulldogs)
Potential destination(s): Carlton, Adelaide
“I've got someone else to go to Carlton.
“He’s another one that’s north of 30 and it is Rory Lobb.
“He's already come out via his manager and said that he was going to request a move, but given his form and his new role, I don’t know now.
“It's going to be a great chat and discussion if he does move about.
“For him, Adelaide again is an option, but for Carlton, he'd fit beautifully in beside Jacob Weitering as the second key defender.
“Slotting him in next to Jacob Weitering based on what we've seen in the past six weeks, that'd be a nice one-two punch.”
Caleb Daniel (Western Bulldogs)
Potential destination(s): Melbourne, Gold Coast
Caleb Daniel is a 28-year-old.
“I’ve never understood why he apparently can no longer play at the level.
“Correct me if I'm wrong. when he was an All-Australian, he was the same size as he is now,
“Can he no longer kick the ball and be a good decision-maker? No. I just don't understand why he's not why he's not in that team.
“Melbourne doesn't have enough good kicks. He could slot straight in there in the back half and Gold Coast doesn't have enough good kicks.
“He could also slot in there beautifully.”
Nick Bryan (Essendon)
Potential destination(s): West Coast, Geelong
“This guy is 23 and he is playing tonight, it’s Nick Bryan.
“I called him the most unlucky player in the game a month ago but he's been playing, and he's been doing alright.
“I think if you are West Coast - he rucks tomorrow for them as the number one ruck.
“Geelong need a Ruckman, too. Toby Conway's injured, he's got a serious foot injury.
“Then Rhys Stanley and Mark Blicavs are into their 30s and behind that is Sam De Koning who is a defender.
“Nick Bryan is one I'd go after and I'd ask the question of.”
Ned Moyle (Gold Coast)
Potential destination(s): Geelong
“Probably the most exciting ruckman in the competition who's not fully exposed is Ned Moyle.
“He's 23 next season and I don't care about his re-signing until the end of 2028 … how long has Jarrod Witts got left to go? He’s 31.
“If I'm Geelong, I’ve got a spot for him straight away and I’d say, ‘Ned, you've already sat behind Jarrod Witts for four years and you’re going to sit behind him for another two, that’s six years of your 12-year AFL career, that’s half of your career as a reserve. How about you come and play for the Cats where you play every week and we contend for the flag every year’.”
