Cam Luke's early Moir Stakes tip

Cam Luke has made a strong case for Lady Of Camelot in the Moir Stakes.

The Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott-trained three-year-old heads into this season with plenty of hype given her promising debut campaign.

The Golden Slipper winner took out Monday's 850-metre trial at Randwick’s Kensington surface ahead of star sprinter Giga Kick, Linebacker and Doncaster Mile winner Celestial Legend.

In what was her second hitout this campaign, Luke believes Lady Of Camelot’s racing style is perfect for the Moonee Valley circuit over 1000m.

“I wouldn’t go overboard, but I thought Lady Of Camelot was really good in a trial on Monday,” Luke told SENTrack.

“Having a look at the Moir Stakes market, I reckon she’ll start shorter than $6 as she’s going to resume in that race.”

Looking at the potential field, Luke has outlined why he thinks Lady Of Camelot might have the advantage first-up at a tricky track and distance.

“Estriella is there, Coleman is in the market and is a nice horse, I don’t think I Wish I Win over the 1000m will be its spot,” Luke added.

“Bold Bastille is a nice horse as is Caballus, Giga Kick won’t be there, Bella Nipotina goes better the other way and it might just be a tad early for it.

“I haven’t backed it but I like Lady Of Camelot going towards a Moir Stakes on September 7 is one I think we should be getting out head around.

“She was brilliant here, she goes both ways, she’s tractable, she was oh so close to winning a Blue Diamond and she was outstanding to win a Golden Slipper.

“Now I know there’s a statistic or two that says the Golden Slipper doesn’t always produce a great three-year-old but I think Lady Of Camelot is a horse that will be suited by The Valley over the 1000m.

“I think Zac Lloyd is going to ride her, I think she’ll be ready to go in the Moir.”

Golden Slipper winners have had a less than impressive record over the past 30 years, with 16 of the past 31 winners failing to win another race.

Estriella is the current $4 favourite for the Moir with Sportsbet ahead of I Wish I Win, Coleman and Lady Of Camelot at $6.
