“They're undoubtedly the biggest club in the country…”: But Brayshaw places doubt on West Coast coaching job

Hamish Brayshaw joined Scott Cummings & Tim Gossage on SEN WA Breakfast to wrap the weekend's AFL action.

The former Eagle wonders why everybody linked to the West Coast coaching job is putting their hand down rather than up.

It could be an attractive job given the size of the club, but Brayshaw feels there are enough negatives to dissuade people from pursuing the role.

“I’ve been talking about this a couple of times with a few over the weekend. What’s there? I think they're undoubtedly the biggest club in the country, and all it takes is a couple things to be in place for them to have some life again,” Brayshaw mentioned on SEN WA Breakfast.

“But I don’t know what those things are, and I don’t know who’s going to want to take that over. Everyone seems to be putting their hands down rather than up and it’s a tough one.

“You have to have an aggressive line with a bunch of players, you have to have an aggressive line forward as a football club. I don’t think you’re going to be able to play a soft rebuild because you’ve been trying a soft rebuild for three years and you’ve been rubbish.

“So, it needs to come in and be aggressive, hard, this is what we’re doing. I mean, I would have said a month ago that (Jarrad Schofield) is the perfect bloke to do that because of the way he was at Subiaco, but the last two weeks don’t do him any favours.

“I still think his style of coaching is what this young group needs at the moment. There’s two ways to do it, you can go that hard route, or you get a Sam Mitchell style that’s got to let the young kids do whatever they want but they don’t have enough young kids. I think the hard style, this is the line and I think you either tie it or get off the ship.”

Brayshaw also gave his thoughts on the season-ending loss suffered by Fremantle at the hands of Port Adelaide on Sunday.
