SEN’s Corey Parker believes Brisbane Broncos bolter Selwyn Cobbo can attract offers upwards of $1 million if he decides to test the open market.

The Broncos face a huge salary cap squeeze due to the likes of Reece Walsh, Payne Haas and Adam Reynolds taking a huge chunk of the cap. Cobbo is reportedly keen to stay at Red Hill but Brisbane are yet to table a contract extension to the 22-year-old.

The Queensland and Kangaroos representative is contracted until the 2025 season but is free to negotiate with rival clubs on November 1 and Parker believes there is no shortage of potential suitors.

“These kids are super talented but what comes with that is that other clubs want to poach them,” Parker told SENQ.

“That’s exactly the case with Selwyn Cobbo.

“I’m led to believe he is going to the open market which suggests to me that he wants to go and see what’s out there.

“If that’s the case, I think he can get (close to) that range of $1 million and they can’t have another player on that big amount of money at the Broncos.

“It’s Selwyn or Kotoni Staggs (who leaves) and it’s a real juggling act for the Broncos. You’d love to keep them both but I just don’t think you can.

“What concerns me for the Broncos is that he is willing to test himself and if you're willing, you want to see what’s over the fence.

“There are going to be 16 other clubs who will come with big money deals because his ceiling is so high. The sky's the limit.

“He can play in an array of positions like fullback, wing or centre so that puts another few strings to his bow.

“It’s a real conundrum for the Broncos.”

Cobbo has made 68 appearances for the Broncos since his debut in 2021.
