Leading form analyst Dean Watling believes he has found some value in Sydney on Saturday.
The Joe Pride-trained sprinter Private Eye is the horse Watling is keen to be with in the $1 million Group 2 The Shorts over 1100m at Randwick.
Private Eye rattled home for fourth behind I Am Me in the Group 3 Concorde over 1000m at the same venue a fortnight ago and at $6.50 with Sportsbet represents great value this weekend.
“What do you do with I Am Me?,” said Watling on SENTrack’s Giddy Up.
“I thought the win first-up was terrific, she did get favours and probably should get favours again here, but I’m happy enough to take her on.
“I think Private Eye is the best bet of the day at Randwick. I thought he was terrific first-up in the Concorde where nothing really made ground.
“I don’t think that race was run to suit and he was the best of the closers late. Joe Pride said they’re going to push the button and get him into the race as that’s when he’s at his best and switches on.
“That push is massive, Jay Ford is in terrific form, and if he wants to be in an Everest then he has to turn up here.
“He’s coming off a lacklustre autumn so they’ll be full of intent. His recent second-up record is terrific.
“I think he is a massive price, I’m really keen on Private Eye.”
At $6.50 Private Eye is on the second line of betting behind Ciaron Maher’s firm favourite I Am Me ($2.30) with Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott’s Lady Of Camelot rated at $8 with Sportsbet.
Private Eye, the G1 Epsom (1600m) winner in 2021, won The Shorts with 58kg at $12 last year. He will carry 57kg under Jay Ford on Saturday and will jump from barrier 12.
