Corey Parker shared his thoughts on Pat & Heals on SEN following the sacking of Broncos coach Kevin Walters and speculated on potential replacements.
Parker acknowledged that not everyone agrees with the decision but emphasized its importance if it's in the best interest of the team.
“If you’re making decisions for the betterment of the club, they’re always going to the right ones,” Parker told Pat & Heals on SEN.
Walters was dismissed after the Broncos’ 2024 review, suggesting internal issues with his leadership.
“I lean on the fact that the review that’s come back from the players and from all the people suggest it’s not in favour of the coach. If they were in favour of the coach, we wouldn’t be having this conversation,” he added.
Parker also suggests the hastiness of this decision may be because the club already has someone in mind for 2025.
“You don’t make these decisions without having someone in mind to replace,” he said.
Parker explains that while there are many options on the “coaching merry-go round”, the main person he would expect to see would be Michael Maguire.
Maguire’s name has been circling for some time and Parker cements that if he fits the team, it’s the right choice.
He mentions that fans and players have hesitations with allowing the current NSW coach to take on the Brisbane side, but Parker insists this shouldn’t matter.
“It doesn’t matter where people come from, if they’re the right man for the job.”
Parker states that if the club sees Maguire as the right man for the job, then nothing else should matter.
