Kane Cornes has called out the AFL Coaches Association for releasing a statement following the Grand Final, questioning the timing of John Longmire’s press conference.
Attending the usual post-game presser, Longmire was forced to listen as the Lions belted out the club song next door.
AFLCA CEO Alastair Nicholson raised his concerns with the AFL regarding the situation, according to Nine News’ Tom Morris.
Cornes can’t believe they’re kicking up a fuss about this, while allowing Ken Hinkley to cop a $20,000 fine for the Jack Ginnivan issue.
“The AFL Coaches Association is the most spineless association in football,” Cornes told AFL Trade Radio.
“That’s the first time I’ve heard from him all year and it’s in relation to John Longmire, which was unfortunate but way down the minor end.
“That is their highest priority at the moment? Not Ken Hinkley ridiculously being fined $20,000 for something that should’ve been a warning.
“You don’t hear from them about the conditions that assistant coaches work in.
“You don’t hear from them about the ludicrous six-month payout clause that all coaches work under.
“It is the most unfair clause in football where you can sign a three-year contract and if the club doesn’t want you, you only get six months payout.
“But we hear from them because John Longmire has to sit through his presser for 30 seconds while Brisbane is singing their song? What are they doing? I can’t have it.
“Wind them up. The AFL should save themselves $1 million and come up with a better solution because this one is not working.”
