The Group 1 feature Amelia's Jewel has at her “mercy” this spring

Leading form analyst Mick Gannon believes Amelia’s Jewel will win the Group 1 Empire Rose Stakes.

Despite remaining winless in the past year, Gannon was impressed by her runners-up run in last Saturday’s Golden Pendant behind Makarena.

The Annabel Neasham & Rob Archibald-trained mare will now likely head to the King Charles in two and a half weeks before a Grand Final run at Flemington in the Empire Rose.

Gannon, who was with Amelia’s Jewel on the weekend, says he’s forgiving her for her performance and wants to see her compete in a race with more speed in it.

“She was my best bet of the day on the weekend and on the day I thought she was bitterly disappointing and that she had every possible chance,” Gannon told SENTrack.

“When dissecting the race, they’ve got five and a half lengths slower to the 600m, probably the most disappointing run was Tropical Squall given how slow they went.

“They went too slow and that gave a horse like Makarena with 54kg who just sat off the leader and she won.

“I’m willing to forgive Amelia’s Jewel this one run, I want to see a faster run race and I wouldn’t mind sticking with her.

“I think we’ll get a better price for her, I think she’ll win the Empire Rose and I still think she’s very much on track to win that race.

“There’s no need to panic and I would’ve liked to see her roll out a little bit in the market but I think she’s still got that race at her mercy.”

Amelia's Jewel is the current $4.80 favourite in the Empire Rose in front of Zougotcha.
