LISTEN I Coach Bazeley discusses All Whites squad selection before start of World Cup qualifiers
After a mixed tour to North America, the All Whites are set to enter the opening phase of their World Cup qualifying bid.
On Tuesday, coach Darren Bazeley named a 21-man squad named for their Cup qualifier against Tahiti in Port Vila, Vanuatu on October 11, before taking on Malaysia in a friendly at Auckland's Mt Smart on October 14.
"The boys are excited to come back and have been talking about it for a while now," Bazeley told SENZ Mornings.
"Everybody's excited to come back here and get into these World Cup qualifiers. This is the business end to what we've been working on, what we've been working towards, and now we need to come here and get this job done."
The group features the return of some of their heavyweights, including captain Chris Wood, Marko Stamenic and Libby Cacace.
One notable absence is midfielder Sarpreet Singh. Having recently signed with Portugal's UniĆ£o de Leiria, Singh missed the American tour due to injury.
Bazeley said they hope to have him back for their November qualifying window against Vanuatu and Samoa, after he's had a chance to gain some match conditioning.
The same applies for Marco Rojas, who has returned to Wellington to rejoin the A-League's Phoenix, with Bazeley leaving the door open for him to rejoin his side next month.
Injuries aside, the Englishman is confident they have the depth of squad to maintain a high standard.
"We're pretty consistent now with some selections. We do have some challenges and some decisions to make. We've got a good deep squad with lots of options.
"It's a strong squad. It's really exciting to get some of these big names to come back to New Zealand."
