“Could reward us”: Confidence in Godolphin filly, but Cummings wary of “silent assassin” at Rosehill

Star trainer James Cummings is confident that Silmarillion will give a good account of herself this weekend.

While there are plenty of other Godolphin stars set to run around in Melbourne and Sydney on Saturday, the three-year-old filly is set to run a big race in the Thoroughbred Club of Australia Plate at Caulfield (Race 2).

Silmarillion stylishly won the Atlantic Jewel at The Valley on September 7 before battling away when fifth in the Jim Moloney at Caulfield last time out.

Cummings has a high opinion of the daughter of Too Darn Hot and feels like she could reward Godolphin at set weights and penalties over 1200m.

“She’s trained on beautifully since her run in the Jim Moloney,” he said on SENTrack’s Giddy Up.

“Dropping back to six furlongs looks like a potentially winning move here.

“She’s nicely placed at set weights and penalties. She can get her preparation back on track.

“It’s safe to say that we’ll train her as a sprinter and she could reward us here. It’s still a solid enough race with a very interesting horse on debut (Keepsake) who couldn’t be trialling any better for Arrowfield.

“Off the back of her win two starts ago she’d just about be favourite in this race. I think there’s a lot to like about her chances here.”

Silmarillion is currently priced at $7 by Sportsbet for Saturday’s race.

Cummings also believes that Snack Bar is a strong winning hope at Rosehill

He races in the Tapp-Craig (Race 6) over 1400m but will take on Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott’s “silent assassin” Anode who drops sharply in class from the Group 1 Golden Rose to a Listed race.

“He (Snack Bar) missed a run in between the Ming Dynasty and now, but look at the horses he bumped into in the Ming Dynasty,” Cummings added.

“Lady Shenandoah won the race down in the weights, Mayfair finished second, fighting on and getting the better of Snack Bar late. That's good form to be bringing into this.

“Anode is a bit of a silent assassin here. He never gets a rap, but he's coming through the strongest form having only been just touched off in the Run To The Rose and buttering up in the Golden Rose.

“He’s in for a pretty neat drop in class and will take some beating.

“Snack Bar can be running a good race here, but I think he he's going to know he's in a horse race, and it would be good to see him emerge as one of our horses that continues to elevate.

“He seems to us to have a little bit of upside and I really love the way he's training, but I am conscious that he's missed a run coming in here now a month between starts.”

Snack Bar is second favourite with Sportsbet at $4.80 behind Anode ($3.50) for the Tapp-Craig.

It doesn’t end there for the powerful Godolphin stable who will also saddle up the hot Caulfield Guineas favourite Broadsiding ($1.55) plus Kallos ($5) in the Schillaci Stakes at Caulfield, while Pericles ($4) will tackle the Group 2 Hill Stakes at Rosehill.
