The “primed” Maher runner that's an “outstanding bet” in the Alan Brown Stakes

The Alan Brown Stakes at Rosehill looks an open affair outside of the race favourite Gringotts, according to Dean Watling.

The Ciaron Maher-trained galloper was completely luckless first-up over the 1400m trip and Watling is expecting him to make amends over the same trip on Saturday.

Jockey Tommy Berry will be in charge and from barrier seven, Watling says he’s an outstanding bet at the current $4 quote.

“It’s a kind enough start over the 1400m trip to the first turn at Rosehill and the 1500m is the fairest at Rosehill,” Watling told SENTrack.

“I thought the run first-up of Gringotts was phenomenal, he should’ve won the Bill Ritchie as he was out the back finding backsides and the winner had the best run of the race.

“I think Gringotts is going to get the absolute dream run from gate 7 for Tommy Berry and when you look at it and him staying at 1400m second-up it might be a concern but last prep he won first-up over 1400m and stayed at that trip second-up and won again.

“I think he’s primed, he’ll probably win this and go on to win the Big Dance or a race like that second-up for whatever race he’s targeted for.

“I think he’s an outstanding bet here.”

As for a potential danger to Gringotts, the leading form analyst says punters should be having a small each-way bet on the top weight Lindermann who has impressed at the trials before this first-up run.

“If I had to find a danger in the race, I thought Lindermann albeit from a wide draw,” Watling added.

“He’s come back better from his trials and he might need this run first-up but he’s a massive horse to follow over the next couple of weeks.”
