SEN Track: Canberra Best Bets – October 18

By Robbie Ringland

We are on the quick back up here in Canberra with a nice eight program ahead of us this Friday.

Rain has missed us most of this week but we are due some race day precipitation, which we’ll account for with these selections.

The TAB Federal and Open Handicaps are particularly interesting affairs.

Best Bets

Race 4 #9 - Spirit in the Dark

I have been waiting for this talented filly to get to the seven furlongs and the fact that Keith Dryden has taken her straight from 1000m to 1400m shows clear intent.

As a 2YO she showed nice ability and her final furlong first up, over the unsuitable 1000m was very promising.

She’s in light as a breeze here with 53kg after Rebecca Prag’s claim and I think drawn wide is ideal.

There’s already been some nice support and I’m hopeful she can get us off to a good start.

Race 6 #5 - Iron Will

This speedy bloke flies fresh and loves to get his toe in. Both of those boxes are ticked this Friday at Thoroughbred Park.

Tash Burleigh has had a great run in Canberra of late and looks to have found her talented sprinter an ideal first up assignment.

He is 2 from 2 on the heavy going and should be able to sit outside the leader in a race with not a great deal of pace.
