Gai Waterhouse loves the Melbourne Cup Carnival and she’ll be hoping to kick off with a bang this weekend.
On Derby Day this Saturday, Waterhouse and co-trainer Adrian Bott will saddle up Too Darn Lizzie in the Group 3 Vanity Stakes (1400m).
The three-year-old saluted smartly last start in the Group 2 Thousand Guineas Prelude (1400m) at Caulfield and Gai is confident that she’ll be in the finish at a nice price on Saturday.
“I think you should be watching Lizzie,” Waterhouse told reporters at Flemington on Tuesday morning.
“I know she went a little to the side, but she ain’t Too Darn Lizzie for nothing.
“She is really going super. Her win at Caulfield in the Guineas Prelude was great.
“I think she’ll be winning again on Saturday so you can back her.”
Too Darn Lizzie is currently priced at $11 with Sportsbet for the Vanity on Saturday.
The Too Darn Hot filly has had six career starts for two wins and two thirds.
Other Waterhouse/Bott runners on Derby Day at headquarters include Lady Of Camelot in the Coolmore Stud Stakes (1200m), Killcare Beachgirl in the Wakeful Stakes (2000m) and Dominetta who is also nominated for the Vanity alongside Too Darn Lizzie.
