SENQ’s Corey Parker had heaped praise on Parramatta’s decision to appoint Mitch Moses as its new captain.
After a disappointing 15th place finish last season which saw coach Brad Arthur sacked and former captain Clint Gutherson released, the Eels will hope that the combination of new coach Jason Ryles and new skipper Moses will help lead them back into the top eight.
“I think he will be a terrific captain,” Parker said on SENQ Breakfast.
“He’s showed what he can do in the Origin arena, he’s a great player.”
Moses had his captaincy announced on Thursday by Ryles alongside former Parramatta captain Steve Edge with teammates and family in attendance as well.
Moses does have previous experience in leadership having been vice-captain for Lebanon during the 2017 Rugby League World Cup.
Moses has been impactful since joining the Eels mid-season in 2017 as a halfback scoring over 1,000 points which sees him ranked 3rd overall for total points scored for Parramatta.
While he only played eight games for the Eels last year due to injury, Moses still managed to garner selection for the Blues where he would be best on ground for Game II.
“Hopefully they can keep Mitch Moses on the field and injury-free moving forward,” Parker added.
He would make a recovery from his bicep injury to feature in all three of Australia’s matches during the Pacific Championships which they won.
Moses will likely captain the Eels in their first pre-season game against the Newcastle Knights.
They will play in Newcastle on February 14 at 6pm as part of the NRL’s pre-season challenge.
