Jesse Hogan has joined Jake Stringer on the on Giants' injury list with the star duo both ruled out of the club's opening round clash against Collingwood.

Stringer's debut will be delayed until at least Round 3 after he picked up a low-grade hamstring strain during a pre-season VFL practice match against Southport at the weekend.

“He won’t play against Collingwood and I don’t think he’s going to play against Melbourne the week after,” Morris said on SEN Breakfast.

“He picked up a hamstring strain in the first 10 minutes of a practice game on the weekend.

“It’s considered low-grade but it’s at least a couple of weeks and they have the bye in week 3 so we probably won’t see him for the the Giants until at least Round 3.”

Hogan meanwhile has a broken thumb after jamming it in a door following the weekend defeat to Carlton. He is expected to miss at least three weeks.

It’s the latest recent setback for Stringer since he joined the Giants having been hospitalised with a virus only last week which saw him sit out his side’s pre-season clashes with Sydney and Carlton.

He spent 24 hours under observation before being released.

Prior, Stringer had been lauded for his brilliant pre-season with the Giants having made the move from Essendon in the trade period.

Stringer joins Tom Green on the Giants’ casualty list with the midfielder out with a calf injury.
