Star jockey James McDonald has identified the horses to beat in this Saturday’s Golden Slipper.

McDonald will ride Chris Waller’s fancied Wodeton in the $5 million race over 1200m for the two-year-olds at Rosehill.

But the gun hoop has previously ridden the likes of Rivellino, Tempted and Quietly Arrogant so has a good handle on the competition.

He was asked by Gareth Hall: Who is the horse for Wodeton to beat?

“I think Tempted,” McDonald said on SENTrack’s Giddy Up.

“She’s beautiful, she’s a cracker, she’s a tailor-made Slipper filly.

“James (Cummings) has her humming, her lead-up form was great and she’s a really economical, no-fuss sort of filly. She’s perfect.

“In saying that it’s a pretty open race.

“Kris Lees’ horse (Rivellino) is a good horse, Wayne Hawkes’ horse Devil Night (is a chance).”

Hall told McDonald of his bet with Wayne that Wodeton will beat home the two Team Hawkes runners in Devil Night and West Of Swindon.

“That’s easy, you’re safe,” McDonald joked.

McDonald is a past winner of the Golden Slipper, saluting in 2014 on Mossfun, coincidentally for Team Hawkes.

Wodeton is currently the $5 equal favourite for the Slipper with Sportsbet alongside Godolphin’s Tempted, and ahead of Skyhook ($8.50) and Marhoona ($10).

The race jumps at 4:35pm AEDT at Rosehill on Saturday.
