We asked some of our AFL experts at SEN the simple question - Who is the best footballer you’ve ever seen?
Former players including Nathan Buckley, Brad Johnson, David King, Campbell Brown and Josh Jenkins answered and there were some varying responses.
Check them out below:
“Well, there’s plenty - (Wayne) Carey, (Gary) Ablett Snr, (Gary) Ablett Jnr, Robert Harvey, I loved him.
“But the bloke who played THE BEST footy in my time was Anthony Koutoufides.
“1999 was an unbelievable season.”
“Gary Ablett Jnr, he was an absolute star.
“What he was able to do with the ball was sensational. He was so clean and precise, and never fumbled.
“He just did the basics so well.”
“Wayne Carey, clearly.
“But if you get a few beers into Wayne Schwass, he will tell you that he (Carey) took best and fairests off him when he was in his prime.”
“Tony Lockett. I loved ‘Plugger’, I had a poster of him on my wall.”
“The best player I’ve ever seen in his chosen role is the little man himself, Edward Betts.”
“‘The Duck’, Wayne Carey. Big games, always delivered.”
“The great Leigh Matthews. His work both in the forward line and that presence around the ball.
“Absolute superstar and arguably the greatest of all time.”
