Devonport is the scene for thoroughbred racing this Sunday with eight races on the program.

It's another early start, with the first race scheduled for 11:47.

Best bet

Race 4 – 1. Capital Cheval

Despite being trained in the south of the state, Capital Cheval has a liking for the Devonport track, finishing in the quinella in all three of his synthetic starts. He was second here last start, finishing behind subsequent winner Captain Cam, with a significant margin back to third. He maps to land up on the speed in a race lacking a lot of obvious pace and looks well-placed to atone for his narrow miss last time out.

Next best

Race 3 – 7. Skelmorlie

Formerly trained by the Hayes team in Victoria, Skelmorlie was favoured to win her first Tasmanian start but had to settle for second behind debutant Vixen’s Moon. She settled at the tail of the field there, before making good ground up the rail, with a decent margin back to the third horse. I think up to 1350m is favourable, and she’ll carry 1.5kg less than last start with Jackson Radley replacing Anthony Darmanin, who isn’t riding at the meeting.

Best value

Race 6 – 2. Thoros of Myr

The market may gravitate to the two 3yos in this race, Highland Duel and Sky Land, which would present some value on Thoros of Myr. He was first-up after 322 days when caught in a speed battle last time, tiring badly over the last 200m to only beat one runner home. He’ll strip fitter here, and the rise to 1150m should result in a less brutal tempo, particularly with less obvious pressure in the race.
