SEN’s Bryan Fletcher has proposed a shock left field option for unwanted Dragons’ speedster Tyrell Sloan, suggesting the Melbourne Storm could help the winger reach his potential.

The 23-year-old has been omitted from the St George Illawarra Dragons on three separate occasions in 2025 despite coach Shane Flanagan’s moving Sloan to the wing from fullback.

The Dragons have since told Sloan that he is free to explore his options elsewhere despite being contracted at the club until the end of 2026.

The Melbourne Storm system is renowned for taking players with untapped potential and turning them into genuine stars in the NRL, with players like Eli Katoa, Jahrome Hughes, Ryan Papenhuyzhen, and Josh King exemplifying this trope.

Fletcher believes Sloan could be the next to follow in their footsteps.

“I can see (Tyrell) Sloan being the next Foxx down in Melbourne,” Fletcher said on SEN 1170 Drive, referencing former Storm flyer Josh “the Foxx” Addo-Carr.

“I don't know about the Will Warbrick head knock, but it is now getting, I think it's 3 months, he's now been out.

“I can see him turning into the Foxx down there.”

SEN 1170 Morning Glory host Matty Johns agreed Sloan would be a great fit in the Melbourne system.

“I can see that, Fletcher,” Johns said on SEN 1170 Drive.

“The thing with Melbourne and their scout, Paul Bunn, he just goes after speed.

“You find those wingers that can just sprint… and then Craig (Bellamy) will put the discipline into them.

“So, Sloan would be exactly that type of guy.”

Meanwhile, SEN’s Andrew Voss has suggested that out-of-favour Dragons winger Tyrell Sloan should take a leaf out of former Parramatta Eels player and current Super League champion Bevan French in relocating to the UK Super League to resurrect his career.

“When I think of the Bevan French example, Bevan had not nailed down a position in the NRL,” Voss said on SEN 1170 Breakfast.

“We didn’t know what his best position was.

“He then goes off to the Super League, finds a happy place and is now seen as the greatest signing in Super League history.

“Wigan absolutely love him and he is now a great of the game over there.

“Can Tyrell Sloan do that? I think the path is a good one.

“That’s not to say that he’s out of the picture of the NRL for all time because he’s only 23.

“Go over there for two to three years, star in the Super League and see where we land. Perth, maybe a couple of years down the track?

“Maybe that is his place.”

Since debuting in 2021, Sloan has played a total of 70 first grade games and has crossed over for 39 tries.
